Arbor Day celebrated with tree planting in Peters Playpark

More than two dozen people gathered in Peters Playpark on Lilac Lane Saturday morning to celebrate Arbor Day. To honor the day, an American elm was planted, joining two oaks in providing shade for the neighborhood park.

The tree, cultivated from an elm found in Afton, Minn., is immune to the devastating Dutch elm disease. Many attendees took home seedling shrubs and trees to plant in their own yards.
