The 100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War is Sunday, Nov. 11 and honors those who lost their lives in the “Great War” – “the war to end all wars” – “the war to make the world safe for democracy.” On Monday Nov. 12 we observe Veterans Day as a national holiday to pay tribute to all American military veterans, living and dead.
The First World War was a conflict of unprecedented scale and destructiveness. Nearly 70 million soldiers served during World War I on both sides and 17 million people died.
