Kiwanis raises $40,000 to fight maternal neonatal tetanus

The Lake City Kiwanis Club announced Sept. 8 that it has raised $40,000 toward the goal of eliminating Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT).

“(MNT) is a painful and deadly disease caused by lack of sanitary birthing conditions. Kiwanis International teamed up with UNICEF in 2010 to provide vaccine doses to women of childbearing age. Since 2010, MNT has been eliminated in 27 countries, but remains a threat in 12 countries,” the club said in a news release.

Kiwanis Club of Lake City made a commitment of $40,000 to support “Project Eliminate.”
