Law enforcement: Seat belts save lifes; Excuses don't.

“I was just driving a few blocks.” “It was hurting my chest.” “They don’t really help in a crash.” Those are the type of excuses heard by law enforcement officers when encountering motorists who fail to buckle up, and the latest observational seat belt survey shows those people are in the minority on Minnesota roads.

To remind motorists that seat belts save lives, more than 300 law enforcement agencies are participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket campaign that runs through Oct. 25.
