Local family seeks help with brain cancer fight

Two benefits are planned for “Team Emily,” an effort to offset medical expenses for the family of a Lake City native undergoing treatment for brain cancer.

Emily (Olson) Freiermuth, 41, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor on Dec. 9. She had surgery to remove the tumor on Deb. 14 and is now in the midst of six weeks of radiation along with chemotherapy. A four week break will follow. Then she’ll continue chemotherapy for nine to 12 months at a high dose, according to a letter sent to business owners seeking donations.
