Ohl: An Earful

We had been sitting on the deck enjoying the calm air and watching the night slowly envelop us. The fireflies were thick on the hillside signaling to one another with their flashing lights. The peaceful evening suddenly ended when an overly adventurous lightning bug decided to fly directly into my stepson’s ear. Brent went after it with his thick forefinger and no doubt pushed it farther into his ear canal. It was buzzing and still using its chemical light as an SOS. His bug buddies couldn’t do anything to rescue him.
