Planting eagle perches in Ohuta Park

In windy and cool weather Oct. 13, about half a dozen people – including members of the City of Lake City staff and the city’s forestry advisory commission – were shoveling holes in the ground at Ohuta Park.
It was slow going thanks to soil compaction and dry weather, but eventually they had holes large enough to plant the cottonwood seedlings waiting in pails nearby.
Large cottonwoods dot the shoreline in Lake City, with some very large ones looming over Ohuta Park, providing shade for people and a perch for eagles.
