Senior athletes have drive-by awards program

On Wednesday, May 13, the Athletic Booster Club recognized the Class of 2020 student athletes with a drive-by program.

The event consisted of three stops on Garden Street in front of the High School.

At Stop 1 senior parents and athletes picked up a Marien’s Deli sack lunch compliments of the Athletic Booster Club.

At Stop 2 seniors were given a poster featuring all Senior Student Athletes, this too was compliments of the Booster Club.

The final stop was a combination of thanking outgoing Booster Club President Cris Gastner for his 12 years of volunteer service and Activities Director Doug Vaith recognizing the “Dream Team.”

To qualify for this a senior must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, participate in 3 sports during their senior year and maintain good standing with the Minnesota State High School League.

This year there were 15 seniors who earned the award, which ties the class of 2013 for the most honorees. Many of the Lake City High School head coaches were on hand to greet, congratulate and give well wishes to the seniors as well.

“In addition to President Cris Gastner, special thanks go to Vice President Dena Huettl, Treasurer Cheryl Geolat and Secretary Samantha Kubista for their efforts in organizing this event along with their energy and ideas throughout the year,” Vaith said.
