Suffragette Lake City

On Sept. 8, women from around the state gathered at the state capitol to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Minnesota’s ratification of a 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.

At least two of them were elected officials (one current and one former) with ties to Lake City.

Katie Himanga was mayor of Lake City from 2005 to 2009.

Lincoln High School graduate Laurel Stinson is a member of the Red Wing City Council.
