Walking Lake Pepin group learns Jewell history

The Jewell Nursery property is a traditional yearly site for the Walking Lake Pepin group walk. Wednesday, June 24, the weather was perfect and the walk along Clubhouse Drive was a scenic route to savor the beautiful landscape that was the historic Jewell Nursery.

Jim Schreck, who worked at the nursery in the 1960’s, led the group on the walk sharing the story of the founding of the nursery by Dr. Phineas Jewell with just 10 acres in 1868 to its most successful years covering 1,500 acres in 1923 under the leadership of J. M. Underwood.
