Winning art becomes placemats for veterans

The Lake City VFW Post 8729 Auxiliary sponsored a patriotic art contest for fourth grade students at Bluff View Elementary School.

“Students designed and made great laminated pictures for placemats for veterans. The theme was ‘Thank you for our freedom,’” the auxiliary said.

Placemats were used April 30 at the First District VFW Convention. After the dinner, the placemats were cleaned and will be given to local veterans at care centers and the Hastings Veterans Home for Memorial Day.
