Zumbro Valley Food Shelf seeing growing demand
The demand for Zumbro Valley Food Shelf assistance is growing.
“We have seen a dramatic increase in clients,” said Pastor Colleen Hoeft of South Troy Wesleyan Church, which hosts the food shelf.
In response to the pandemic, the food shelf has made some adjustments to how it serves clients.
To avoid direct contact between clients and volunteers as much as possible, the food shelf hands out grocery lists to clients upon arrival. Clients mark what they need. A volunteer then fills the order and brings the food to the client.
So far the amont of food at the food shelf is sufficient to meet demand, Hoeft said, “but we are low of fresh produce, milk, and bread and we would accept donations for those things.”
The food shelf is seeking more volunteers to help on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. Volunteers can sign up online at www.signupgenius.com/go/4090845aba822a75-zumbro.
