City Council forms environmental commission

In a 5-2 vote at its Oct. 9 meeting, the Lake City City Council approved the formation of an environmental commission.

The advisory commission was put forward by Mayor Mark Nichols.

He said he has been asked numerous times for the city’s position on environmental issues like the sedimentation of Lake Pepin or the dredge sand problem at the lake’s southern tip.

While he has a personal opinion on these issues, he hopes the new commission can help the city determine an official position.
