City Council tables tax abatement for Lake City Sanctuary Hospice

An abatement that the developer said is necessary to construct a hospice facility in Lake City is on hold.

The abatement would refund the increase in city property taxes to the developer generated by the proposed 12-bed, $4.6 million facility in the Jewel development for 20 years or up to a maximum of $800,000. If approved, the facility could be open in 2018.

Following a required public hearing on the Lake City Sanctuary Hospice abatement during the Oct. 9 City Council meeting, the council voted 5-2 to table the request.
