City life was too much after the war ended
Editor’s note: A series of articles about Lake City residents’ memories of their lives on the home front during World War II concludes with a first person account and poem below. The articles were created by the Friends of the Lake City Library in conjunction with this year’s Lake City Reads selection, “The All-Girl Filling Station Last Reunion.” The book tells the story of the women who ran a filling station in Wisconsin while the men were away fighting in the war. The next Lake City Reads event is a book discussion Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at the Lake City Public Library.
