Council approves max levy increase of 3.58 percent

The Lake City City Council approved a preliminary property tax levy $3,464,273, an increase of 3.58 percent over 2018, at its Sept. 10 meeting.

Cities are required to certify a preliminary property tax levy amount by Sept. 30. A final levy, which can be the same amount or less, is due in December.

Mayor Mark Nichols said the levy increase compares favorably with neighboring cities that are looking at increases of seven, eight, and nine percent.

He praised City Finance Director Amy Hove.
