Human remains found near dam

A resident clearing debris from the Mississippi River discovered a shoe and the lower portion of a human leg on Saturday, July 14, according to the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office.

The discovery happened about 20 feet from shore in West Newton, south of Lock and Dam No. 4.

A search of the area on July 15 turned up no further remains or other “items of interest,” according to a sheriff’s office news release issued that day.
