Mail delivery could be interrupted if an employee contracts COVID-19

Lake City Mayor Mark Nichols shared the following information about local postal service on Friday, March 20. It was still up-to-date as of Tuesday, March 24, according to Lake City Postmaster Darin Lundell.

“Post office update. I have had a few questions about our U.S. mail asking for the outlook for our local service. The mail carriers and support staff are operating well and effectively.

“I had an update today from our Postmaster Darin Lundell. The business of mail delivery is very important to our community. Postmaster Lundell stated that mail is being delivered and if a mail customer has a unique request he’s available to discuss customer’s needs.

“Currently carriers can sign for accountable mail items and customers can install large boxes on their property to receive packages.

“Please reach out to your carrier, Post Office staff, or Postmaster Lundell for more information. You can also open a P.O. box if it’s paramount to have access to your mail.

“If a local Post Office employee does contract the virus there could be an interruption in service.”
