Worker shortage gets local, area attention

A shortage of people in the workforce isn’t coming. It’s here.

And local employers, from large manufacturers to small retailers are having trouble finding people they need to fill job openings, according to Elliot Culp, Lake City’s economic development director.

“You go to any number of manufacturers, you can go even to Marien’s Deli or the local retail stores, people are having trouble locating workers everywhere,” Culp said.

It’s a good problem to have, he said. Minnesota was ranked by some as No. 1 in the nation in job creation this year.
