Andru Peters obituary

Andru Martin Peters, 84, of Lake City, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. He was born on December 27, 1940, in Lake City, Minnesota to Martin and Eleftera (Mitrush) Peters Tushi Kristo.
Andru grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School. While in high school he was active in playing football and softball/baseball. Andru lettered in football for three years and held All Conference at center. The class of 1957 also won two HVL conference titles. He also played Legion baseball while in high school. Andru went on to attend Macalester College where he played football and received his BA Degree in Economics/Political Science and Journalism in 1963.
Andru served his country in the US Army Seventh Army Support Command during the Vietnam Era from October 1963 to October 1965. After his honorable discharge he went on to further his education receiving his AA Degree in Transportation from DeAnza College, Cupertino, California in 1977, ICC Practitioner in 1976 and FMC Practitioner in 1977, and his MS Degree in Materials Management from the University of Southern California in 1985 in Los Angeles.
Andru was employed and lived and worked in the San Jose, California area for 32 years in the transportation and management field and served as president of APICS Palo Alto and San Jose Chapter. He served as a lobbyist for trucking legislation in California as well as served as an Adjunct Faculty at several colleges in California, and at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Andru lobbied for many cities and veteran legislation in Minnesota, having six submitted bills signed during Gov. Pawlenty, Dayton and Walz terms. In 2019 he was part of a group that had 60% of all veterans’ legislation submitted to committee and passed and signed by the governor as well as being instrumental in getting the Legion Act of 2019 passed. Andru spoke at many International Conferences for the APICS, PMA, IEEE and trained Asian firms for 14 years in Supply Chain Management.
After returning to Minnesota Andru continued to be active in the Lake City area community serving on the City Council, active in the veteran groups in the area, as well as serving as the president of the Lake City Kiwanis Club, a member of the Lake City Historical Society, served as the president of Hiawathaland Bus civic leader committee, was president of the SE Minnesota Regional Trails committee, and served as Vice Chair of the MN High Speed Rail Commission. He was instrumental in working on the TH 61 highway project and in getting funds for the Great Ridge Trail in Wabasha County among many other projects throughout the area. He was inducted into the Lake City Hall of Fame in 2016 in the Class of the 1955 unbeaten football team. Andru was a member of the Lake City American Legion Post #110 and the Lake City VFW #8729, and the Holy Anargyroi Sts. Kosmas & Damianos Orthodox Church in Rochester. He also stayed very active in playing baseball in his adult life playing for the Tennant & Hoyt fast pitch team and was a catcher for 35 years. He also coached many men’s teams and women’s fast pitch teams in Minnesota, Arizonia, and California.  
Andru is survived by one sister, Carol (John) Musser of Los Gatos, California, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many close friends that were his family throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Judy.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at Holy Anargyroi Sts. Kosmas & Damianos Orthodox Church at 703 Center Street West in Rochester, with Fr. Nick Hubbard officiating. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
Following the service friends and family may visit on Tuesday, June 10 from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church at 110 South Oak Street in Lake City followed by the burial in Lakewood Cemetery with Military Rites by the Lake City VFW Post #8279 and American Legion Post #110 followed by the Bell of Honor.
