Carol Betcher Obituary

I, Carol Marie Prigge Betcher passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at the age of 80, in the comfort of my home in Lake City, from a brief battle with cancer.  
    I was born in Lake City to Arthur and Lydia (Carsten) Prigge on Sept. 30, 1938.
    I attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
    At the age of 18 I married Lloyd L. Betcher from Mazeppa on June 29, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City.   On May 5, 1960 our first child, Dale, was born and on April 19, 1964 our second child, Lori, was born.  We resided in Lake City.
    Over the years I had many jobs.  My first job was picking strawberries at Newland's Nursery at age 10, Jewel Nursery at age 12 and Johnson's Root Beer Stand at age 14.  After graduation I worked at the Red Wing Pottery painting special pottery pieces until they closed.  After I was married I worked at the Red Wing Shoe but didn't have reliable transportation so left that job and started working at Zero King in Lake City assembling and sewing coats, they closed their doors too.  I ended up working in the Lake City Hospital laundry room until I retired due to health reasons.  I did, however, do daycare for 10 years for my three grandchildren and two little girls, "Tinkerbell" and "Snooky" until age 67.  One of my passions was growing garden flowers and plants so I sold them for years during the 100 mile garage sale through May 2018.  Other odd jobs I did were housekeeping at home, sewing for Sylvesters in Red Wing and  home assembly/sewing Santas, bear and rabbits for Bouquets of Kellogg until the job was sent over to China.
    I had a lot of interests and hobbies such as fishing, mushroom and agate hunting, growing plants — lots or orchids, drawing and painting, sewing, embroidering, crocheting, wallpapering, small carpentry projects, refinishing woodwork and furniture, upholstering and had a love for pets.  I had them all from dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, tropical and pond fish.  As far as the growing and selling of plants I was known as the "flower lady" from near and far.    
    For years I had thought of donating myself for study so when I was diagnosed with metastatic cancer on Aug. 31, 2018 I signed up for the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program.  Therfore my wishes are not to have a funeral or celeberation of life and will be having a private burial at a later date in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City.
    I am survived by my husband, Lloyd of Lake City; children, Dale Betcher and Lori Huffman, of Lake City; bother, Arthur (Lori) Prigge of Washington state; sister, Valarie Johnson of Red Wing; brothers-in-law, Alvin Betcher and Henry (Marlene) Betcher, both of Mazeppa; grandchildren, Heidi (Jeremy) Savage and Drew Huffman, both of Red Wing and Kyle Savage of Lake City; nieces and nephews.  I was preceded in death by my parents, Arthur and Lydia Prigge; mother- and father-in-law, Henry and Laura Betcher; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Marjorie Prigge; niece, Barbara Prigge; and nephew, David Johnson.
