Catherine Haneca Obituary

Catherine “Kitty” Haneca, loving mother, grana, sister, aunt and friend to many, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020.
Kitty was born on Oct. 14, 1943 in Lake City to John and Catherine (Murphy) Haneca. Kitty’s family eventually moved to Minneapolis and she graduated from Columbia Heights Senior High School in 1961. She attained her license to practice as a hairdresser while in high school, worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN, worked for Sunstrand, a manufacturer of aerospace and industrial products in Denver, Colo., as well as for Allianz Life in Minneapolis. Kitty resided in Tampa, Fla., Denver, Colo., Vancouver, Wash,  and finally retired in Minnesota. Kitty was very proud of her son, Charles and was living with him and his family at the time of her death. Her grandkids were the true loves of her life. She often shared that she was happy to be able to be with her “kids” in her last days.
Kitty loved to travel and was able to visit Ireland, which had been a lifelong desire of hers, as she took much pride in being an Irish lass. She had always been an independent woman, who lived her life in a way as to not miss out on anything. When living in Denver she was an avid skier and country western dancer. She continued to be aware of current events and could hold a conversation with anyone on most topics. Kitty was an amazingly smart and witty person with an admirable sense of humor.
She is survived by her son, Charles M. Haneca; daughter-in-law, Darci; three grandchildren, Henry, Kevin and Celia; siblings, Mary Jean Gaustad, Charles J. Haneca, Theresa Cermak, Julie (Jeff) Diepenbrock and Michael Haneca; and many nieces and nephews.  Kitty was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Patrick Haneca.
In light of current health concerns, the family has chosen to have a Celebration of Life at a later time. Please check Kitty’s Facebook page in the coming weeks, where we will post the date and details of the event. We hope to be together soon, to celebrate Kitty with love, laughter and shared memories.
