Charles Haneca obituary

Charles J. Haneca, 75, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021.  Charlie (Butch) was born Sept. 13, 1945 to John and Catherine (Murphy) Haneca in Lake City, Minn. His family eventually moved to Minneapolis. Charlie attended Columbia Heights High School.
    Charlie’s passion for cars turned into a lifetime of auto body repair and restorations. He worked at the Shell Gas Station  and Northeast Auto Body before becoming self-employed. He enjoyed his time at local restaurants with his breakfast buddies and his coffee gang. Charlie also enjoyed going to car shows, landscaping, working on the farm,  filming family events with his old video camera, helping his grandkids with school projects, and telling elaborate stories.
    Charlie is survived by his daughter Laura Lawler, son John Haneca; five grandchildren, Mitch, Genna (Matt), Nick, Jack and Marie; siblings Mary Jean Gaustad of Lino Lakes,  Theresa Cermak of Mounds View,  Julie (Jeff) Diepenbrock and Michael (Gigi Miller) Haneca of Lake City; aunts Jean Reinhard, Joyce Murphy, Pearl Murphy and Margaret Haneca; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Charlie was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Patrick and sister Kitty Haneca.
    A Celebration of Life will be held at the family farm in Lake City, Sunday, May 30 from noon to 4 p.m. for Charlie and his sister Kitty, who passed in May 2020.
