Daniel Coyle obituary

Daniel James Coyle, age 71, died peacefully on May 7, 2025, surrounded by his family and in his home in Lake City, Minnesota. Born to Frank W. and Mary Patricia (McKenzie) Coyle on April 23, 1954, in Lake City, Wabasha County, Minn. Dan attended Mary E. McCahill Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972. He later attended Rochester Community College. On October 24, 1981, he married Mary Katherine Dwelle at First Lutheran Church in Lake City, Minn. Together they built a life in Lake City, Minn. raising their two daughters, Megan and Katie.
Dan pursued his love of sports, especially baseball, as a member of the 1972 State High School baseball team. In addition, he enjoyed playing softball and tennis, roller blading and biking. Skiing at an early age at Mt. Frontenac later led him to venture west on trips with his ski buddies. Eventually he enjoyed ski trips closer to home with his daughter, Megan.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fly fishing, pheasant hunting in Iowa with his brothers-in-law, and duck hunting along the Mississippi River bottoms. He trained many labrador retrievers with the help of his youngest daughter, Katie.
Dan was an active member of the Lake City community, dedicating his time to help raise funds for such projects as the Riverwalk, St. Mary of the Lake expansion project, the Ralph Samuelson waterski replicas and bronze, the Lincoln High School tennis courts, and the Bill Kieffer baseball fields. He was a faithful organizer for the Salvation Army kettle each Christmas.
Dan worked for Wild Wings, Inc. for over 20 years in sales to non-profit conservation groups, such as Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and the National Turkey Federation. He continued his career in sales with Schad Tracy Signs in Oronoco, Minn., Acrotech, Inc. in Lake City, and Jenlis, Inc. in Winona for many years prior to his retirement in 2017.
Dan is survived by his wife, Mary, and daughters Katherine C. (Benjamin) Glomski, Lake City, Minn.; and Megan M. (Kristopher) Ackerman, Dundas, Minn.; and step-grandson Krosby Ackerman. He is also survived by ten siblings: Jo (Spike) Mylan, Edina, Minn.; Michael, Driggs, Idaho; Peggy (Dick) Brown, Lake Elmo, Minn.; Pat Burns, Minnetonka, Minn.; Frank (Kathy), Bozeman, Mont.; Peter (Sandy), Lake City, Minn.; Paul, Lake City, Minn.; John (Linda), Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Ellen (Jon) Erickson, Wayzata, Minn.; Therese (Kevin) Beauvais, Lake City, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, Lake City, Minn. Visitation will be on Friday, May 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and one hour before the service. There will be a private burial at a later date at Lakewood Cemetery, Lake City, Minn. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the National MS Society (www.nationalmssociety.org) and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (www.cff.org).
