David Durgin obituary

David Donald Durgin, 78, of Lake City, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Rochester, Saint Marys Campus, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on May 16, 1946, in Kellogg, Minn., to Donald and Lucille (Hartliep) Durgin.
David graduated from Plainview Community Schools in Plainview, Minnesota in 1964. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. His dedication to his country was a source of immense pride, and he carried the values of duty and honor with him throughout his life.
He was employed by Federal Mogul in Lake City, Minnesota for 41 years as a piston and sleeve inspector.
On June 19, 1971, he married Jean Lemke, and together they built a family filled with love, cherished memories and lasting connections. Though they later parted ways, their union brought Jennifer and Brian into the world, who were the pride and joy of his life. David was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, always making time for those he loved.
A man of many talents, David, had a lifelong love for fishing, inventing and tinkering with projects. He was always creating something new and sharing his ingenuity with those around him. He had a deep appreciation for antique tractors and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, sharing jokes, and reminiscing over family photos. His signature sense of humor brought laughter and joy to everyone around him.
David is survived and deeply missed by his two children, Jennifer (Nathan Skog) Durgin of Ellsworth, Wisconsin and Brian Durgin of Lake City, and his two grandchildren, Tyler and Hayden. David is also survived by his siblings, Delores (William) Halpaus of Lake City, Diane (Wayne) Knaup of Rochester, Darlene Peloquin of Prior Lake, Minn., Derene Dobson-Durgin of Rochester, Dorathy Durgin of Wabasha, Donna Halvorsen of Guernsey, Wyo., Duane (Sandy) Durgin of Rochester, Daniel (Bach) Durgin of Rochester, Dennis Durgin of Rochester, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Dale Durgin.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7 at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel in Plainview, Minn. with Pastor Bob Blanshan officiating. The burial will follow the service in St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery in Plainview. Friends and family may visit from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, at the Schleicher Funeral Homes, Plainview Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
