David Martinson obituary
On Wednesday, December 28, 2022 David (Marty) Martinson passed away peacefully at home at the age of 80.
David was born on April 23, 1942 in Red Wing, Minn. to George Elmer and Marie (VonHelmst) Martinson. He attended school in Lake City. On April 28, 1962 he married Rosa McNabb. He raised his family in Frontenac and rural Red Wing areas. Local government was important and he served several terms as the Clerk of Florence Township. After 40 plus years as an esteemed member of the maintenance team at Federal Mogul, he retired in 2004 and began a new chapter. He bought a home in Los Fresnos, Texas for the winters, then began singlehandedly building a home on his Red Wing property. This is where he spent his final years, months, days and hours.
As a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac, faith was important. He lived life with honor and integrity rooted in that faith. His many talents include building, fixing and growing things. The valuable advice he shared will be missed by many. He was a much loved son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
David was preceeded in death by his parents George Elmer and Marie, and brothers Alver Martinson, Milton Martinson and Stanley VonHelmst.
He is survived and sadly missed by his wife Rosa, Los Fresnos, Texas; sister Birdie Gilbertson, Arkansaw, Wis.; four children, Sherry (Allen) Luhman, Lake City, Wendy (William) Adler, Frontenac, David (Dana) Martinson, Red Wing, Patricia (Kevin McIntyre) Martinson, Los Fresnos; five grandchildren Jonathan and Joshua (Liz) Sundberg Lake City, Samantha (Alex) Anderson Red Wing, Elizabeth Adler, Lake City and Destiny Plank, Red Wing; nine great grandchildren, Hunter, Cayden and Bennett Sundberg, Carly and Molly Sundberg, Brielle Freiburg, Demiah, Deja and Derrick Jr. Plank.
A memorial service was held February 5 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac.
