Dennis Dankers Obituary

Dennis John Dankers, 83, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  
    He was born on Sept. 15, 1936, in Lake City to John and Florence (Michaelson) Dankers.  He graduated from Lake City High School in 1954 and then served in the National Guard from 1954-1960.  On May 31, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carol Tipcke at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Belvidere.  They lived in Red Wing where he worked for 35 years at the Red Wing Shoe Company, retiring in 1995.  He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he had served on the school board. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, woodworking, golfing, playing cards and most of all spending time with his family and friends and going to the cabin in Cumberland, Wis.
    He is survived by his loving wife, Carol of 61 years; three daughters, Denise (Jim) Steffenhagen, Jody (Todd Hertog) Augustin, and Sonya (Perry) Jaeger; seven grandchildren, Kari (Nate) Bluhm, Heidi (Dan) Cox, Amber (Brian) Baumann, Marissa (Kyle Hulbert) Augustin, Tyson (Jackie) Augustin, Adison (Angela Beaton) Jaeger and Salina (Hannah Burt-Anderson) Jaeger; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon (Verlene) Dankers;  one sister, Kathryn (Ray) Swagger; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dan Augustin; and his siblings, Mary Ann, Alvin, Erna, Rollie, Maurice and Eunice.
    Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Rev. Peter Sternberg officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Memorials are preferred to the church or Mayo Red Wing Hospice.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahfamilyfuneralhome.com.
