Doris Moyer obituary

Doris Marie Moyer, age 90 of Lake City, Minn., ended her earthly journey on March 12, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Mantorville, Minn. Mom was born at her parents’ home on December 9, 1931, to John A. Miller and Katherine Klennert Miller, and made Lake City her lifetime home. Mom met the love of her life and waltz partner, our dad, Miles D. Moyer at the Oak Center Dance Hall; they married on November 23, 1954. Dad preceded her in death on July 16, 2009.
She graduated from Mary E. McCahill Institute and was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church parish her entire life. In Mom’s high school years, she worked at Saunders Café. During and after high school, she was a switchboard operator alongside her two sisters at The Dwelle Telephone Company. Through our growing years she provided daycare for various families, worked for The Echo newspaper, and served students for 23 years at Lake City Public Schools as a cook.
Our parents always welcomed unexpected guests of all ages into their home, so Mom found creative ways to stretch family meals. Mom and Dad taught us many forms of spirituality including cherishing family and friends, taking time to laugh at life, working hard, enjoying earth’s beauty, and watching for signs from above.
Mom enjoyed many aspects of nature and being outdoors. From an early age, she loved fishing with her Dad and brother, Butch. Mom transferred her love of lake fishing to our Dad, us, and her grandkids. Many hours were spent in beautiful flowerbeds and vegetable gardens to provide canned goods for her family and friends. Mom loved bird watching and feeding the ducks at the Plaza.
Mom and Dad found great joy in their ten grandchildren: Holly, Julie, Travis, Nadine, Dustin, Cody, Madeline, Samantha, Laura, and Luke. They attended every extracurricular event they could. Mom loved picture taking and made 18 years of photo memory books for each grandchild. It brought Mom joy to hand-knit and share almost 1,600 scarves; many were shared with Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School, great-grandchildren’s classrooms, friends, and family. Mom also enjoyed her special grand-pup Stanley.
In Mom’s loving and generous spirit, her body was donated to the Mayo Foundation for Research and Education at her request.
We are blessed and grateful for Mom’s presence in our lives. We are at peace. Mom is survived by daughters – Mary K. Randall of Lake City, Theresa (Scott) Dzwonkowski of Mankato, Kristine “Tena” (Todd) Walker of Mantorville; son – Thomas (Mollie) Moyer of Ocean Shores, Wash; daughter-in-law – Pam Moyer of Lake City; brother – Tony “Butch” (Mary Lou) Befort of Arlington, Tex.; special niece – Kathy Lofberg of Lake City; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Waiting to greet Mom and celebrate her arrival at the pearly gates were Dad, her son Timothy Moyer, son-in-law Wayne Randall, granddaughter Nadine Randall, her parents, her sisters Marge Myer and Kaye Wempner, and many other loved ones and friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father James Russell officiating. Friends and family may visit from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to: Mayo Clinic Hospice Rochester, St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Parish in Lake City, Diocese of Winona-Rochester TV Mass (DOWR TV Mass P.O. Box 588, Winona, MN 55987).
