Frances Fitschen Obituary
Frances Anna Fitschen, 91, of Lake City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha.
Frances was born March 13, 1926 to Walter and Amalia (Strusz) Dicke in Featherstone Township. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Hay Creek Church. She worked for area farm families as a teen taking care of children, doing gardening and chores. Later she worked at the Red Wing Shoe Company. Frances married Vernon Fitschen Sept. 20, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Hay Creek Church. She became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence where she was a lifelong ladies aid member and taught Sunday school for many years. Frances loved to sew, crochet and knit.
Frances is survived by four children, Charlotte (Herbert) Prahl of Eau Claire, Wis., Marilyn Tomforde (Duane) Hansen, Wayne (Carol) Fitschen and Larry (Lori) Fitschen, all of Lake City; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kermit (Angie) Dicke; two sisters, Verna Schrader and Doris (Howard) Swanson; one sister-in-law, Gwen Dicke; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, sister, Viola Rohe, three brothers, Donald, Wilbert and Earl Dicke, one son-in-law, Robert Tomforde, a grandson, Zachary Fitschen and a great-grandson, Gideon Prahl.
A funeral Service will be Friday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of West Florence with Rev. Paul Otto officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 4, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City.
