Inez Guerra Obituary

Inez Guerra passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020 at The Bluffs of Lake City senior residence in Lake City, with family by her side.
    Inez was born on March 22, 1921 in Dona Ana, N.M.  She was married in December 1937; her husband, Mike passed away in 2001. Inez was an insurance agent with Businessmen’s Assurance. Upon retiring, Inez and her husband traveled in their Airstream to Mexico for five years; spent 17 years in Palm Springs, Calif. and from there they moved back to New Mexico. After Inez became a widow she moved into Golden Mesa Retirement Home in Las Cruces, N.M., where she was very active and became a Red Hat Society member.  She lived in Georgetown, Texas for eight years and was active with the Meals on Wheels program where she was one of the official bingo callers. Playing Canasta and Hand and Foot and Scrabble were her favorite card games. Inez also enjoyed decorating, flower arranging, participating in activities at The Bluffs, especially bingo, and socializing with residents. Her highlight was taking a trip to see her daughter’s new home in a classic “golf cart” owned by Jerry Dieltz, accompanied by friend Ila Jacob.  Inez enjoyed phone calls from her six children and grandkids.  Prior to living at The Bluffs Inez took up residence at Plaza I of Lake City.
    She is survived by her children, Rosemary Mesa of Georgetown, Texas, Martha Romero of Las Cruces, N.M., Mike (Nica) Guerra of Las Cruces, Dolores (Jerry) Berg of Lake City, David (Peggy) Guerra of Liberty Hill, Texas and Irma (Bill) Siegmund of Canon City, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Erminia Fierro.  Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years; three brothers, Arturo, Amado and Jesus Jr.; sister, Ruth; and parents, Amado and Rosenda (Molina) Garcia.
    Services will be held at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, in Lake City on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 9:30 a.m., with Fr. Matthew Fasnacht officiating.  Upon her request, cremation was taken place and remains will be interned on Feb. 14  in St. Francis Garden Columbarium in Las Cruces, N.M. with services at 10 a.m. with Rev. Richard Catanach officiating.
