Janis Rabe obituary

Janis Rabe, age 93, of Lake City, passed away on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at The Bluffs in Lake City.
Janis was born on March 13, 1927 in rural Lake City to William & Amanda (Hoops) Tiedeman. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. Janis married Wilbert “Bud” Rabe on Sept. 25, 1946 at Lincoln Trinity Lutheran Church Rural Zumbro Falls. After they were married, they farmed his family farm until 1980 when they retired and moved to Lake City. Janis was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the Ladies Aide until she was 90. She also often provided flowers for the altar and cemetery and helped with decorating at Christmas.
Janis loved the farm and worked so hard all her life. She was an avid gardener maintaining a vegetable garden and flowers. She canned and froze vegetables and offered produce from the garden to everyone! She would ask you if you wanted a cabbage or tomatoes and it did not matter what your answer was, she would send you home with three cabbages and a huge pile of tomatoes. She especially liked her raspberry patch and each Christmas, children and grandchildren would receive six jars of raspberry jelly. She enjoyed baking and usually brought multiple types of cookies and bars to family gatherings. No one ever left Janis’s home hungry. Janis enjoyed being outside, taking walks, playing golf, cross country skiing. She mowed her own yard until she was 90. Playing euchre was a favorite pastime and family members always wanted to be her partner because she was pretty good at it.
Janis is survived by two daughters, Carole (Larry) Adams of Blaine, Minn., Dawn (Michael) McCoy of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; one son, Dennis (Sue) Rabe of Wabasha; eight grandchildren, Todd Adams, Tim Adams, Heather Rabe Oeltjen, Polly Rabe, Kelly Culver, Tom McCoy, Kyle McCoy and Caitlin McCoy; twelve great-grandchildren;  one brother, Ray Tiedeman of Lake City.
