Joan Hynes Obituary

Joan Audré Hynes went home to the Lord surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at Cottagewood in Rochester.
She was born Jan. 19, 1932 in Seneca, Iowa, to Leonard B. and Lucy M. (Saunders) Anderson. She graduated from Thompson High School in Iowa and married Paul B. Hynes Nov. 14, 1949 in Buffalo Center, Iowa.  They farmed in Springfield, Minn. and then in 1958 moved to Plainview to farm for most of their life.  They retired to Lake City in 1998 and then Joan moved back to Plainview after Paul’s death.  She moved to Cottagewood in September 2014.
She spent many days watching her grandchildren.  Her days were brightened by visits from her family.  She was an active member of St. Joachim’s Church, the Catholic Daughters, adult choir, and taught religious classes for many years. After retirement, she volunteered at St. Marys Hospital.
She is survived by her 10 children, Charlotte (Kenneth) Lindmeier, Larry (Yoon), Timothy (Linda), Paul (Meta), Nancy Decker, James (Linda), Angie (Darrel) Dessner, William (Sharon), Dennis (Darla) and Kathleen; and three sisters, Judy Menke, Mary Post and Sandra (Wayne) Pederson.  She had 28 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren, which she cherished very much, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, and three brothers, Robert, Larry and Joseph, one granddaughter, Jennifer and one grandson, Gordon.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 10, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
The family would like to thank the Cottagewood staff and Season’s Hospice for their loving care of mom.
Arrangements are being handled by Schad and Zabel Funeral Home, 657 3rd St. SW in Plainview. Online condolences may be left at schadandzabelfuneralhomes.com.
