John Diercks obituary
John Diercks, 90, of Lake City, passed away on September 28, 2024 at Mayo Clinic St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
John was born on September 27, 1934 in Lake City to Harry and Margaret (Heitman) Diercks. He graduated from Red Wing High School and then joined the Army. He served until 1962 and was discharged. John married his wife Elaine Juers on June 21, 1957 at St. Peter’s Belvidere Lutheran Church. They lived in Lake City and later they moved to a dairy farm in Mount Pleasant Township. He worked at USG in Red Wing from 1986 to 2006. John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially vacations to the Bay View Resort, being a member of the Men’s Birthday Club at the Whistle Stop Café. John was an avid Vikings fan, always thinking this was their year!
John is survived by his wife, Elaine of Lake City; four children, Colleen (Terry) Gorham of Scandia, Minn., Andrew (Sandra) Diercks of Utica, Minn., Carmen (Billy) Zuelsdorff of Plainview, Minn., Paul (Heidi) Diercks of Rochester; eight grandchildren, Kobey, Korrigan, Kaden, Bretten, Rhein, Kiel, Alia, Aubrey; one great grandchild, Evelynn; step granddaughter, Kaitlin; two step great granddaughters, Addison, Brielle; siblings, Dean (Mary), Jerry (Sue), Marcia Luhman, Ruth (Richard) Berg, and Kathleen Jonas; one sister-in-law, Janis Diercks.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Louis Diercks II “Johnny”; siblings, Richard, Stanley, Ralph, Roger, Edith Milligan, Maxine Wiech and Judy O’Reilly.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s of Belvidere Lutheran Church in Goodhue. Pastor Steve Frentz will officiate. Visitation will be at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Goodhue. John’s family would like to thank all the staff at St Marys Hospital for the kind and compassionate care John received.
