Joy Larson obituary

Joy Larson, age 73, went on her “sentimental journey” to the Lord on Nov. 25, 2020, in the care of her sister and brother-in-law.         Born Sept. 17, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minn. to James and Florence Scully, Joy was the fifth of eight siblings. She lived a country life in Zimmerman, Minn. until graduating from high school in 1965. She pursued a career in data management and computer programming in Minneapolis. In 1971 she married Gerald Larson, gave birth to Joseph in 1976, and moved to Bloomington, Minn.
Her devoted husband, Jerry, preceded her in death in 1980. Joy opened a floral business called “The Joy of Giving”. In 1991, she moved to Lake City, Minn. and worked as activities director for the River Oaks Nursing Home, falling in love with caring for others. She became semi-retired in 2000 and continued to help the elderly by assisting in household work and repair that others struggled to do for themselves and was property manager of Mobile Village in Lake City for 22 years. She found delight being an avid member of the Lake City Bittersweet Garden and Women’s Clubs. Joy collected antiques and curios, and, with her love of nature, adored canoeing and gardening.
She is also preceded in death by parents James and Florence Scully; brothers Lee and Brian; sister Edee; sister-in-laws Sandy and Sharon. Survived by son Joseph Larson; brothers Keith (Bette) in Texas, Richard in Minn., sisters Dae (Ray) MacCord in Mont., Edna (Stanley) Przezdziecki in Minn., and many cousins, nephews, nieces and great-nieces and nephews.
