Katherine Merrell Obituary

    Katherine A. Merrell, 92, of Wabasha, formerly of Kellogg and Lake City, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.  
    She was born Feb. 5, 1925 in Hammond to George and Elizabeth (Angelbeck).  She was a 1943 graduate of St. Felix High School in Wabasha.  She worked many years at Lake City Hospital as a nurses aide and later as a licensed practical nurse (LPN).  She retired and moved to Bella Vista, Ark.  Several years later she moved to Fort Myers, Fla.  Katherine was a longtime member of the Lake City VFW Post 8729 Auxiliary.
    Katherine is survived by children, Jane Wiley and Michael (Barb) Wiley, both of Red Wing and John (Mary) Wiley of Duluth; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, George (Elaine) Passe, St. Paul; and nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Eugene Wiley and Clyde Merrell; children, Jay Wiley and Mary Taylor; grandsons, Todd Wiley and Chad Sprick; brothers, Laurence and Walter Passe; and sisters, Elaine Sullivan and Loretta Hoffman.
    A memorial mass will be offered on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg.  Officiating will be the Rev. Fr. Gregory Parrott.  Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday one hour before the mass.  
    In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center Activity Fund, 626 Shields Ave., Wabasha, MN  55981. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements www.abbottfh.com.
