Kenneth Sprick obituary
On July 27, 2024, Kenneth Frederick Sprick, 93, of Zumbro Falls, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family.
Ken was born March 24, 1931, in Lake City, Minn. He was the youngest of three children born to Henry and Amanda Sprick. Ken, the son of a sharecropper, grew up working the land with his father and siblings. He learned what a work ethic meant, and it stuck with him all his life. As a young boy he enjoyed riding his horse and being engaged in outside activities. Ken attended Lake City High School and was active in football, track, baseball and the All School Play. He also participated in 4-H and the Golden Gloves team.
Ken met Phyllis Lortscher in high school, and they were married at the Little Brown Church in 1953. Ken and Phyllis farmed together, and Ken was shortly thereafter drafted into the US Army. He served his time as a tank commander in Louisiana. They returned to Lake City to farm and eventually moved to Zumbro Falls. Ken always had a gift for tinkering and inventing and he put that skill to good use when he got his drafting degree and worked for Di-Acro in Lake City for most of his career. Ken always had two jobs, his mechanical engineering and his farming. If we were to sum up our father it would be hardworking, honest, hardworking, creative, and hardworking! His wish was to live and to die on his farm and that is what he did.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents and both of his siblings. Surviving family members are his wife, Phyllis Sprick; children, Cheryl Sprick (Rick Bremer), Dan (Sue) Sprick, Deena (Bruce) McMahon, Peggy (Dick) Huseth, Amy (Carroll) Ramer, Judy (Donny) Henn; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
