Lawrence Neubert Obituary

    Lawrence Ferdinand (Jake) Neubert of Austin, Minn., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Our House Senior Living in Austin.
    Jake was born on May 30, 1925 in Mankato, Minn. to Jacob and Stella (McHugh) Neubert. He graduated from Loyola Catholic High School in Mankato in 1943. As part of his military training, he attended one year at Miami of Ohio University in Oxford, Ohio. After the war, Jake earned his bachelor's degree in education from Mankato State Teachers College and later, his master's degree from North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.
    Jake was a World War II combat veteran in the U.S. Navy, serving in South Pacific battles at Midway, Saipan and Okinawa. He was an accomplished athlete, particularly in football. He was the starting fullback and linebacker on seven conference championship teams: three at Loyola, one at Miami of Ohio and three at Mankato Teachers College.
    He had a long and distinguished 36 year career as an educator and administrator in Wales, N.D.; Browns Valley, Minn. and Lake City.  He also coached basketball, football and track.
    He is survived by six children, Daniel (Judy) Neubert of Robbinsdale, Minn., Nancy (Dean) Stenberg of Troup, Texas, Matthew (Patti Pritzl) Neubert of Phoenix, Ariz., Lauri (Mike Arturi) Neubert of Red Wing, Shelly (Mike) Bouquet of  Grand Rapids, Minn. and Wendy (Randy) Kramer of Austin, Minn.; six grandchildren, Matthew (Marisa) Neubert of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Brent Stenberg of Tyler, Texas, Jacob and Brady Kramer of Austin, Minn. and Emily and Mike Arturi of Chicago; along with one great-granddaughter, Stella Neubert. He is also survived by siblings, Jim Neubert, Paul Neubert and Shirley Westphal. Jake was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Catherine (Erlandson) Neubert, parents, grandson, Bradley Stenberg and brothers, Ken and Ray Neubert.
    Private services and interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Please direct memorials to Our House Senior Living, 204 14th St. NW, Austin, MN 55912 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
