Leona Kreye Obituary
Leona F. Kreye, 104 and 10 months, died Easter Sunday morning, April 1, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha.
She was born May 30, 1913, to Joseph and Cecelia (Plein) Freese of Kellogg. She married Clem C. Kreye Nov. 27, 1935 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg. The couple moved to Wabasha and resided on the Kreye family farm raising their family there. Clem died Sept. 29, 1990.
Leona was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church, its Council of Catholic Women and a longtime member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and tending to flower gardens. She also loved spending time with her friends in their sewing club over the years.
She is survived by five children, Clem (Virginia) Kreye of Rome, Ga., Carol (Edmund) Thornton of Lake City, Phyllis Kennebeck of St. Paul, Bruce Kreye of Farmington, Minn. and Lucinda (Jon) Peters of Lake City; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Gloria Freese of La Crescent; nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clem; son, Norman; brothers, Edwin, James and Joseph Freese; and sisters, Viola Schad and Dorothy Plank.
A funeral mass will be Friday, April 6, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Rev. Fr. Gregory Parrott officiating. Interment will follow at St. Felix Cemetery. Casket bearers and honorary bearers are her grandsons. Family and friends can call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
