Lyle Cordes obituary

Lyle Ervin Cordes, 92, of Lake City, died on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020 at Elysian Senior Homes of Lake City, The Bluffs. He was born in Florence Township on May 3, 1928 to Arthur and Alvina (Michaelson) Cordes. He attended rural schools in Florence Township. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 16, 1951 and served until his honorable discharge on Nov. 9, 1952. On Oct. 25, 1969, Lyle was united in marriage to Leona Karstens at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frontenac. He farmed, worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and the City of Red Wing until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54. He enjoyed watching the birds in their backyard and woodworking.
He is survived by three siblings, Vernice (Fran) Cordes of Red Wing, Verna Koenig of Lake City, and Vera Carlson of Red Wing; one daughter, Judy Dworak of Andover, Minn.; and one granddaughter, Barbie (Wayne) Otto of Red Wing; one son-in-law, Fred Fitschen of Red Wing; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; three brothers, Orlin, Walter, and Franklin Cordes; daughter, Gloria Fitschen and grandson, Brian Fitschen.
A visitation will be from 9 until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing. Private burial will be at the West Florence Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
