Martin Petersen

    The funeral mass for Martin “Marty” Petersen will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, with Fr. John Wilmot officiating.  Burial will follow the service in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake City with Military Rites by the Lake City American Legion Post 110 and VFW Post 8729.
    Martin J. Petersen (Marty) of Sun City, Ariz. died, Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Boswell Hospital in Sun City.
    He was born in Stephen, Minn. to Delores (Pinkie) Black Petersen and Anton Petersen. After graduating from high school, he served his country in the Army, in 1954 and 1955.  On June 12, 1965, he married Jean Funk. They had one daughter, Denice (Matt) Klett.
    Marty was a past president of the Adam’s Conservation and Gun Club, in Toledo, Ohio. Marty thoroughly enjoyed hunting and shot his first deer at age 11. He had hunted in Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and Canada.
    Marty lived in Sylvania, Ohio and worked for General Mills in Toledo for 40 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Sun City, Ariz. He volunteered by driving the bread truck for the Olive Branch Food Bank and St. Vincent DePaul.
    He had many hobbies and collections and enjoyed decorating, with numerous lights and hand-painted figurines for the holidays. Christmas was his favorite.  He had a special place in his heart, for his “foster grandchildren” David Cole, Nancy Baker and Erin Landgraf.
    He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Petersen; and daughter, Denice (Matt) Klett.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Lola Lewis, brother, Jim and his parents.
    Friends and family may visit from 10 a.m. to the time of service at the church on Saturday.
