Mary Cordes Obituary

Mary Cordes, 105, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Health System - Lake City Care Center.  
    She was born on Aug. 21, 1912 to Joseph and Mary (Tissek) Frendt in St. Paul.  She attended school in St. Paul and then moved to the Lake City area.  On Sept. 6, 1934, she married Norman Cordes in Mount Pleasant Township.  They farmed in the area until retiring in 1991, then moved to Lake City.  Norman died Oct. 8, 1994.  Mary was a member of Immanuel Lutheran West Florence.  She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Mary is survived by her sons, Dennis Cordes of Ellsworth and Jerome (Diane) Cordes of Winona; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Viola Harp of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; two children, Joleen Bushweiler and Charles Cordes; four brothers and three sisters.
    A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at Immanuel Lutheran West Florence with Rev. Stephen Kurtzahn officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will one hour prior to the service at the church.
