Merlyn Blattner obituary

    Merlyn “Mert” Alfred Blattner, 81, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus. He was born February 12, 1941, in rural Wabasha County near Mazeppa, to Andrew and Lillie (Quell) Blattner. Mert attended country school and St. John’s Lutheran School and Lincoln High School in Lake City.
    Mert farmed for 30 years and worked at the nursery in Lake City, and then worked for 11 years at the Oak Center Creamery and at the Federal Mogul foundry in Lake City for 10 years. He truly loved his work and helping an area farmer often.
    Mert is survived by his children, Louise (Wilson “Butch”) Mann, Jeff Blattner, James Blattner, and Kim (Kevin) Plote all of Lake City; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Melvin (Pat) Blattner of Lake City, a sister, Jeanette Keyser of Red Wing, and a sister-in-law, Eloise Blattner of Lake City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby sister, Janice, sister Joanne Befort, and two brothers, Ervin and Marvin.
    A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 16, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City.
