Michael Duncan obituary

Michael Wayne Duncan, age 76 of Red Wing, formerly of Lake City, Minn., passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Minn. on Friday, November 15, 2024 with his loving family by his side.
He was born on May 23, 1948 to Merrel and Bernice (Sivula) Duncan in Minneapolis, Minn. He grew up in Lake City, Minn. and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1966. During his high school years, Mike played bass guitar for a band he formed called “The Jivaros”. They played in many battle of the bands competitions throughout the Midwest and they also cut a record.
After high school, Mike attended Rochester State Junior College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. On January 24, 1969, Mike joined the United States Air Force and served in the 9th Recon Group during the Vietnam Era achieving the rank of Sergeant.
On April 11, 1970, he married Patricia A. Laqua and they were stationed at McClelland Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif. until he was honorably discharged on January 2, 1973. Mike and Pat moved back to Lake City where they raised their two children. They enjoyed many activities together, including golf, bowling, and traveling to their children’s athletic events.
Mike was a businessman and entrepreneur; he served as President of Duncan’s Inc. as well as Even Par Enterprises, Inc. He had six patents and multiple copyrights. He also did a limited edition print, titled “The Last Mission”,  in memory of his father who flew 30 missions in the European Theatre Operations. The Mayo Clinic also painted a mural of this print.
Mike was an avid golfer and bowler. He competed and placed well in many Lake City Invitationals and traveled to several national bowling tournaments with his team that was captained by Syl Thiel.
After losing his first wife Pat to pancreatic cancer in August of 2002, Mike met and married Delaine Webber on November 11, 2016. They enjoyed eight years of love, laughter, and companionship. Mike was a kind, compassionate, and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. His smile could brighten any room and his laugh was contagious.
He is survived by his wife, Delaine; a daughter, Holly (Doug) Diepenbrock of Wabasha; a son, Andrew (Nichole) Duncan of Reedsburg, Wis.; his sister, Diane (Glenn) Albers of Lake City; five sisters-in-law, Vicki Duncan of Rochester, Minn., Jan (Tom) Healy of Jacksonville, Fla., Marilyn Watterson of Jacksonville, Fla., Jean (Jim) Moldenhauer of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kim (Darren) Luoma of Duluth, Minn. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, Bill (Kerry) Laqua of Red Wing, Minn., mother-in-law and father-in-law Leroy and Arlys Webber and four grandchildren: Hunter Diepenbrock, Sulley Duncan, Kilian Duncan, and Kai Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Pat, his parents, and his brother. A Celebration of Life was held for Mike at the Red Wing American Legion Post #54 on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. He will be buried at the St. John’s Cemetery at a later date.
