The last day of 2017 was the last day on the earth for M. Phyllis Herman, 94, of Plainview and formerly of Lake City.  Born to Ralph and Mabel (Johnson) O’Hara in Jarrett, Minn., she spent her childhood exploring farm bluffs and the Zumbro River with her brother, Russell O’Hara. She was educated at Hyde Park Elementary and Rochester High School while the family farmed near Hammond.  Sister Shirley Polson-Roberson joined them there.
She met the love of her life and married Edwin Herman in 1941 on Christmas Day.  Together in faith, love and strength they raised their family in Lake City where Ed was the Herman half of Hassler and Herman Implement Company.
Phyllis was a lover of music, singing soprano in choirs and in a trio that graced many religious services.  Her involvements included Women’s Club, American Legion, Women of the Church, volunteering for the Republican Party and following sports of Lincoln High School.
She is survived by her kids, Madaleine (Jerry) Hlady, Boyton (Sue) Herman, Karleen Lutter, Curtis (Beth) Herman, Stanley (Jeri) Herman, and Richard Hermann; siblings, Shirley Polson-Roberson and Russell O’Hara; the Herman in-laws, Winifred Salley and Wilfred Hermann.  Grandkids are remembering their first babysitter and nieces and nephews remember someone who loved their conversations.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Sunday, June 10, at New Hope Church, 302 North Prairie Street in Lake City from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a program at 2 p.m.  Transportation can be provided to this service, please call 951-925-3438 and leave your phone number to call.
