Richard Craig Obituary

Richard “Dick” Melvin Craig passed away unexpectedly, at age 60, on Wednesday,  Nov. 1, 2017 in Sterling, Colo.          Richard grew up in Mankato, Minn. as part of a large, close-knit family. Dick graduated from Mankato West High School in 1975. He obtained a bachelor's degree in  nursing from Mankato State University and continued his nursing career in the Army Nursing Corps, finalizing his education with a certified registered nurses anesthetist (CRNA) from the VA School of Anesthesiology in 1994.  After his army service, Dick worked as a CRNA in Marionette, Wis., Lake City and Sterling, Colo.
While in the Army, Dick met fellow Army nurse, Cindy Wheat, and they married in 1991. Their 24 year marriage produced two well-loved children, Ian and Emily.
Dick had many interests and hobbies ranging from planes, flying, and woodworking, to Celtic music and the Craig family’s Scottish history.
He will be sorely missed by Cindy; his children, Ian and Emily; his father, Melvin Craig; siblings, Julia (Larry), Ruth, Kathy, David (Kindle), Paul (Tracy), Jane and Mike (Kim); and many nieces, nephews, and furry friends.  His family is grateful for the presence in recent years of his special friend, Kimi Williams. He was preceded in death by his mother, LaVonne Craig.
A memorial service will be Monday, Nov. 13, noon, at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive in North Mankato, with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Full military honors will be provided by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad and a reception will follow at Northview.
