Richard Farrington Obituary

Richard Clarence Farrington, born March 11, 1947 to Marion and Ella (Miller) Farrington in Mitchell, S.D., went to his Lord on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones.
    Rick attended schools in Howard, S.D. and graduated in 1965 from Worthington Senior High School in Worthington, Minn. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1968, serving in San Diego, Calif. and Little Creek, Norfolk, Va., ending his tour of duty in Guantanamo Bay Cuba with an honorable discharge in January 1971.
    On April 17, 1971 he married Patricia LeCleir in Chippewa Falls, Wis. On Aug. 20, 1974 Kristine was born in Lake City while Richard was working at Lake City Super Valu. Then on June 14, 1977 Joel was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa while Richard was working at Pizza Hut. In 1977 he returned to Lake City and went into business with his sister Linda Farrington at the Whistle Stop Café in Frontenac. Martin was born Aug. 29, 1980 while Richard was working at the Whistle Stop. In 1993 Rick started at Treasure Island Resort and Casino, first serving as a sous chef, then went into shipping and receiving, retiring in March of 2013.  After his retirement he worked part-time in outside maintenance at the Frontenac Golf Course.  Rick was very happy tinkering in the garage. He especially loved to go fishing with his kids and grandson.
    Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia (LeCleir) Farrington; daughter, Kristine Farrington; sons, Joel Farrington and Martin (Tara) Farrington; granddaughters, Ella and Norah Farrington; grandson, Izaak Farrington; sisters, Linda Farrington and Barbara (Steve) Nielson; and niece, Stacey Eggert. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece.
    A memorial service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church in Red Wing on Wednesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tyge Zucker officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City on Wednesday, July 15, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dale Kohrs officiating. Please follow the COVID-19 guidelines, masks are encouraged for the services.
