Richard Simpson Obituary

Richard (Dick) Charles Simpson passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 in Lake City at the age of 82.
Dick was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Earl LeRoy Simpson and Iva Helgerson Simpson, and was raised in Waverly, where he met Doris, his childhood sweetheart. After graduating from Waverly High School (class of 1953), Dick attended Wartburg College in Waverly for a year and played on the varsity football team. Dick and Doris married in 1954 and moved to Ames where he earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Iowa State University, and then a master’s degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Early in his career he worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and subsequently was hired by IBM and transferred to IBM Rochester, where he worked in executive and engineering roles until his retirement in 1992. Dick and Doris moved to Lake City in 2016.
Besides his lifelong devotion to Doris and his “boys,” Dick loved cars, all sports especially Iowa Hawkeye football, and travel which included visiting all 50 U.S. states and many European and Asian countries.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 64 years, Doris Ann (Peschang) Simpson; sons, Scott Richard Simpson (Dawn) of Lakeville, Minn. and Clark Charles Simpson (Allison) of Lake City; grandchildren, Kelli Marie Simpson and Daniel Scott Simpson; brothers, Arthur Simpson and James Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick donated his remains to the Mayo Clinic for research purposes and requested that no funeral services be held on his behalf. The family will gather to remember him when they inter his ashes at a later date at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester where he and Doris were active members for many years.
