Roger Helgerson obituary

    Roger K. Helgerson, age 83, passed away at the Lake City Care Center on May, 26, 2021.
    Roger was born on Nov. 9, 1937, in Lyon County, Iowa to Otto and Oneva (Eiesland) Helgerson. He married Janice Person and they later divorced. Roger then married Carole Sinke on June 9, 1990 in Randolph, Minn. Roger was an educator for 41 years, He started as a teacher teaching social studies and coaching for Spring Valley and then taught in Lake City until 1981. He then worked for 19 years as a field representative for Education Minnesota. Roger was a member of the Lion’s Club in Lake City, a member of the First Lutheran Church of Lake City and a long-time member of the Lake City Golf Course.
    Roger is survived by his wife Carole; his sons, Scott (Ann) Helgerson, Erik (Susan) Helgerson; stepdaughters, Rachel (Jesse) Malsom, Kerris (Mike) Dillon; stepsons, Sam (Jillian) Sinke, Drew (Katherine) Sinke; grandchildren, Ingrid, Grace, Emma, Donovan, Landon, Olivia, Jessica, Ben, Sydney, Gabriel, Kalan, Makena, Kaia, Beckham, Leia; sisters, Clarice (Chico) Krenik, Pattie Kondziolka; brothers, Robert (Frieda) Helgerson, Lyle (Kay) Helgerson; brother-in-law, Roger (Karen) Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Donna Bexell, Joanne Putzker; brothers-in-law, John (Sue) Davies, Robert (Jean) Davies.
    He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Oneva Helgerson; his sister, Onalee Zimmerman; his son, Roger Helgerson, Jr.; his in-laws, Burton and Lyla Davies; Chester Kondziolka, Joel Bexell, Robert Putzker, Isabel White.
    A private memorial service will be held June 12, 2021, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Duane Holst officiating. The funeral will be livestreamed on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page at 11 a.m. on Saturday and on the First Lutheran Church website. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City.
