Ron Hooge obituary
No longer in our arms but forever in our hearts, Ronald Dean Hooge left us too soon on January 27, 2026 at the age of 67. He was born in Madelia, Minnesota on May 1, 1958 to Vern and Lydia (Gerdes) Hooge.
He is survived by his devoted and cherished companion, Dawne Mettes; his children Robert Hooge and Trisha Joyce; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron spent his early years on a farm in southwest Minnesota learning the value and satisfaction of hard work and a job well done. These were to become a part of his foundation in life.
After graduating from high school Ron attended Southwest State University where he received a bachelor of science in 1981.
Ron had many employment adventures which eventually brought him to Lake City, a place he called home and truly loved.
Ron became a Scoutmaster while Robert was a boy scout and enjoyed the many camping adventures they went on. Around the campfire he shared his stories which almost always would bring laughter to those who listened. His lively laughter will long be remembered.
Ron was a business owner in Lake City for many years and assisted local businesses and individuals with his computer knowledge.
He was a member of the Lake City Rotary for 15 years, serving as president for two terms. He was recognized as a Paul Harris Award recipient in 2016 for his dedication to the club and to the mission of Rotary.
Ron coordinated the Lake City Winterfest celebration from 2015 to 2022. So, if you remember playing in the winter games or just watching the fireworks on the frozen lake, you could thank Ron.
When Ron wasn’t at work or loving his family, he enjoyed reading about history and researching his family genealogy.
A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held February 24, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Lake City.
