Sharon Hanson obituary
Sharon Irene (Muckelberg) Hanson, age 84, of Coon Rapids, passed away peacefully after years of challenges with Vascular Disease and Dementia, surrounded by family on (March 30, 2025) at Select Senior Living in Coon Rapids. Sharon was a devoted daughter, loving mother and grandmother, great-grandmother, caring sister and trusted friend.
Sharon was born on Saturday, November 16, 1940, in Lake City, Minn. She was the second of four children born to John and Stella (Krier) Muckelberg.
Sharon and her sisters, Marycarla Johnson and Johnell (Muckelberg) Schrupp, enjoyed their ‘Mayberry’ childhood in Lake City, until age 14. With her two sisters, she skated winter days on Lake Pepin, summers they swam and played on the beach. On rainy days the three of them played ‘paper dolls’ on the sun porch of their family home, later in the evenings they would go looking for ‘night crawler’ worms with their Dad for fishing the next day. In the evenings, the family would sit in the living room around the Philco floor radio listening to Bob Hope, Red Skelton, westerns, etc., eating Mom’s ‘sticky popcorn’.
Sharon moved to Richfield in 1954 and graduated from Richfield High School in 1958. Sharon met Ronald John Hanson, the love of her life, and were married on November 25, 1961. The marriage was blessed with one daughter and three sons.
Sharon loved to read, gardening, enjoyed old movies, music of the Big Bands, Country Western, Elvis and Frank Sinatra. Sharon especially loved stuffed animals. For more than 35 years, Sharon collected ‘Cherished Teddies’ (small ceramic bears). Her collection filled every corner of her home and apartment at Select Sr. Living, much to the delight of her neighbors.
Sharon and her family loved to bowl in leagues where they won numerous trophies. Bowling was both entertainment and accomplishments for the family. Sharon especially loved coffee, chocolate, romantic Westerns, mysteries, and her hands in garden soil. Most of all, Sharon loved to be in the mist of her family and friends.
Sharon made friends easily and always seemed to be the center of attention. Sharon will be missed.
Survived by daughter, Wendy (Hanson) Hite and son Kenneth Hanson, her sister Marycarla (Muckelberg) Johnson, nephew Joel (Lori) Johnson and niece Jennifer (Sheldon) Sanvik. Also survived by her three grandchildren: Amanda, Ben, and Luke Hite, and her three precious great-granddaughters: Vera, Lyra, and Rose, as well as many cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by her beloved parents John and Stella (Krier) Muckelberg, her loving husband Ronald John Hanson Sr., cherished son Ronald “Butch” Hanson Jr., granddaughter Alicia Hite, son-in-law Dennis Hite, grand-niece Kimberly Johnson, dearest sister Johnell (Muckelberg) Schrupp, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. They will be all there to greet ‘Sheri’.
A private funeral service and internment will be held for the Family.
